In the joint application scenario, OPTIMUM’s “Smart Klaus” assists with assembly tasks. The camera-based system guides employees through the assembly process step by step and checks whether the correct components are being used, parts are assembled correctly, and positioning and polarity requirements are met. The iTAC.MOM.Suite Manufacturing Operations Management system supplies relevant production information, including data on orders, products, materials, and processes.
iTAC.CATi brings production knowledge into the conversation
iTAC.CATi plays a central role. The AI-based knowledge platform consolidates information and data from different sources and makes them accessible through natural-language interaction. Its integration with the MOM system enables questions about production history, material batches, or process parameters to be answered directly via the AI assistant, for example. Employees can retrieve the knowledge they need more quickly, analyze disruptions, and make informed decisions on the shop floor.
The systems complement one another: “Smart Klaus” supports and monitors assembly, iTAC.MOM.Suite provides the production context, and iTAC.CATi makes the knowledge available within it accessible through natural-language interaction.
MOM becomes the knowledge base for AI-powered production processes
At the same time, the use case illustrates how the role of MES/MOM is evolving as AI becomes more widely used. The system does more than control and document production workflows: it also maps the relationships between machines, materials, products, and processes. This makes it a vital knowledge base for AI applications on the shop floor. “Smart Klaus” provides a concrete example of how an existing AI-powered application can gain an additional layer of knowledge.
“The more tasks AI takes on in production, the more important MOM becomes. AI needs more than data; it must also understand the production context behind that data. By making this knowledge directly available to the assistance system through CATi, we can support employees not only in carrying out the task itself, but also directly in analysis and decision-making,” says Andreas Zerfas, VP Product Management at iTAC Software AG.
Live at EFX
The application scenario is already being implemented in the production environment of electronics manufacturer Limtronik.
At EFX, the application will form part of the SEF Smart Electronic Factory e. V. live use case “From quotation to delivery.” Several member companies are connecting their solutions to create an end-to-end digital process chain, from customer inquiry, material procurement, and production planning to assembly, quality assurance, and delivery. SEF and participating members including iTAC and OPTIMUM will be exhibiting in Hall 9 at Booth 9C60.
