Dürr, Fraunhofer and iTAC initiate a big data analytics collaboration

Mechanical and plant engineering company, research society and MES manufacturer sign letter of intent at HANNOVER MESSE

Hanover, 28 April 2016 – Dürr AG, its full subsidiary iTAC Software AG and the Fraunhofer Society for the Advancement of Applied Research are collaborating on the development of a big data analytics service. A management representative from each of the organisations signed a letter of intent in this respect at the HANNOVER MESSE. Their common objective is to develop and market a Machine Learning-as-a-Service (MLaaS) for the iTAC.MES.Suite, which is iTAC’s manufacturing execution system.

Machine Learning-as-a-Service (MLaaS) is a scalable artificial intelligence offering in the cloud. The Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems in St. Augustin was asked to collaborate in the project as a result of its big data analytics expertise and, together with the iTAC experts, it will be pursuing the objective of developing various sector-specific MLaaS for big data analytics.

Possible applications for the big data analytics module that is planned for the iTAC.MES.Suite are predictive maintenance, increased efficiency and reduced fault yield.
At this time, the plan is for iTAC to launch the product in the market with and for Dürr in 2018.

Dürr AG, a leading mechanical and plant engineering company, and the Fraunhofer Society have collaborated on many other projects over the years. They are also both involved in the ‘Heinz and Heide Dürr Foundation’ at the ‘Institute for Energy Efficiency in Production’ (EEP). 

The letter of intent was signed at HANNOVER MESSE by management representatives of Dürr, Fraunhofer and iTAC on 26 April – in the presence of Dr Heinz Dürr, Honorary Supervisory Board Chairman of Dürr AG – at the Fraunhofer Society’s exhibition stand.
